Homemade Fabric Refresher

We all like things clean and fresh smelling. Using fabric spray is a quick way to make our furniture, jackets, bags, carpet, and more smell better!

Did you know that using commercial fabric refreshers like Febreeze are terrible for our health and the air quality in our homes? You do not want your family breathing in the chemicals found in these products! Here are a couple reasons why you should ditch that spray bottle right away!

1. Febreeze does not remove odor molecules, it just masks them with a chemical fog!

2. 1,3 -Dichloro-2-propanol has been linked to cancer.

3. Methyl pyrrolidone can cause reproductive harm.

4. Gerinoil is a lung, skin, and eye irritant.

There are other chemicals in the product that cause more harm to humans as well as pets. Is using these products worth it? I don't think so.

Check out my recipe below to make your own fabric refresher spray. It is made with safe ingredients and you can tailor it to your own scent preferences! Also it is inexpensive!

The ingredients can be found in store or online. The upfront cost might be higher than purchasing a bottle of fabric spray, but once you buy the ingredients, they can be used over and over again to make many bottles full of your own non-toxic spray! Click on the ingredient below for links to the product pages on Amazon.

Homemade Fabric Spray

2 tablespoons witch hazel

1 tsp vitamin E oil (optional but acts as a natural preservative)

water to fill the glass spray bottle

8 oz glass spray bottle (essential oils react with plastic)

Mix all ingredients in the spray bottle and gently mix. Use on fabrics you want to give a smell boost! Check certain fabrics for staining, though I have never had an issue with this on my fabrics. Enjoy the great scent! Feel free to use a different combination of essential oils if you like another scent more.
